Henry Dry Goods

Henry Dry Goods provides a gorgeous mix of edgy and preppy to small textiles!

I recently visited the very cutest shop in Lexington!

Henry Dry Goods is so adorable, y’all! It’s on Jefferson Street, among the most lovely little nook of stores and restaurants. Lexington is really having a moment for shopping and dining! I swear I do more shopping there than I do in Louisville these days, and I LOVE that the area around Transylvania — my alma mater — has gotten so much more fun and trendy!

I had the wonderful opportunity to speak with Henry founder and CEO, Sherri Henry Wolf, and her partner Dianne Oakes at their shop, and I was enchanted in every way. The decor is so beautiful, and the Henry textiles — pillows and bags at the intersection of preppy and edgy — are simply gorgeous.

As I talked to Sherri and Dianne, the most beautiful theme of second chances kept popping up. Sherri told me how she lost her first company as a consequence of a divorce. Dianne introduced me to this sweet girl, who was one of the dogs displaced by Superstorm Sandy. It was just an amazing vibe of beauty and grace and strength. I’d entered their loft space a fan of their handbags; I left a true believer!

And we haven’t even talked about the monograms yet! Y’all know I love a good monogram, and Henry features some of the most lovely monogram styles I’ve seen in ages!

These vintage-style ribbon straps add an even more personalized touch to your Henry bag.

In case I wasn’t in love enough, Henry has a gorgeous line of UK gear! Sherri collaborated with the University of Kentucky to reimagine the iconic UK Plaid for some gorgeous pieces, and they also carry clear, stadium-friendly crossbody bags! Oh, and Mrs. Calipari has one of those plaid crossbody bags! Is there any better endorsement than that?

I simply fell in love with my Ben Game Day Tote. This would be such a fun bag to pack for the SEC tournament. I’ve already used it as a purse and a work bag; it’s an amazing piece for Wildcat fanatics like me!

Thanks so much to Henry for the fabulous tour, and the gorgeous bag! I can’t wait to share more of their goodies with y’all!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Obviously, I mean SEC football season, and especially those magical weekends where you can take in some races at Keeneland AND a UK football game. Bonus points if you need a sweater, wrap, or poncho, especially this Draper James poncho in Wildcat Blue.

The Perfect Dress for fall horse racing!

Finding the perfect dress for Keeneland is pretty high on most Kentucky women’s to-do list. In fact, over the seven years that HerKentucky has been running, “What to wear to Keeneland” is the search that brings the most people to this site. Getting the Keeneland dress code right is a big deal. Now, I’ll do another post a little closer to the beginning of Fall Meet to remind everyone of the dress codes for each of the various areas of the racetrack, but I wanted to share this dress with y’all today because I think it absolutely nails Keeneland style.

Dress: Draper James | Boots: Frye | Necklace: Elva Fields | Bracelet: Bourbon & Boweties

I love the idea of a basic, solid dress that can be paired with pumps or boots, statement jewelry or scarves, to create different looks. You could wear this dress to the track, the office, dinner, or just about anywhere you want to look nice. Just switch up the accessories and you’re good to go.

I went with my Elva Fields necklace and a Bourbon & Boweties Bourbon Barrel bangle, but I think an equestrian-themed scarf is always a lovely touch for a day at the races, too. Here are some great ones at every price point.

Since my brand is, quite literally, Kentucky, I like to wear subtle little nods to our Commonwealth’s heritage! This Bourbon & Boweties bangle is an exclusive to Sweet Mash Goods in Lawrenceburg. The Key Fob is from an exclusive partnership between Draper James and Keeneland.

I had so much fun shooting these photos in Gratz Park. It got me so excited to hopefully visit Lexington many, many times during Keeneland’s Fall Meet. Lexington in October is truly one of those sights that everyone should experience!!

Ariat International Brand Shop at The Summit at Fritz Farm

Ariat International's equestrian style brand shop is coming to Lexington!

I am so excited that Ariat is opening a brand shop at The Summit at Fritz Farm

I recently had the opportunity to preview some pieces from Ariat's Two24 footwear line, and y'all are just going to love them! Two24 pays homage to Ariat's equestrian heritage - both English and Western riding wear -- in a fashion-forward line for everyday use. Y'all, the craftsmanship on these products is amazing. The leather feels amazing, and you can see the difference that handcrafted design makes!

I recently got a peek at these Ariat Two24 men's boots at a Keeneland event.

I recently got a peek at these Ariat Two24 men's boots at a Keeneland event.

In keeping with Ariat's equestrian heritage, the Two24 line's name is a nod to Secretariat's world record 2:24 running time at the Belmont Stakes. In fact, Ariat's brand name is derived from the legendary "Big Red" horse. Now, any horse lover can tell you that Secretariat's success was due to a visionary woman, his breeder and owner Penny Chenery. The Ariat brand was founded in the early 1990s by resourceful women who wanted to revolutionize riding boots for comfort and performance. Now, with the Two24 line, Ariat brings their designs to everyday footwear.

“Ariat is named after one of the greatest thoroughbred racehorses of all time, Secretariat. His heart was outsized, and he was a fierce competitor who loved to run – everything we aspire to be as a company and brand,” said Beth Cross, President and CEO Ariat International, Inc. “To be able to open a brand shop in historic Lexington, the horse racing capital of the world, is special. We look forward to becoming an integral part of the greater Lexington community.”

It really is a perfect fit!

Butter Pecan Toffee

It's National Dessert Month and HerKentucky has teamed up with Wholly Wholesome to talk about desserts! This morning, I stopped by WTVQ in Lexington to talk about National Dessert Month and share this delicious butter pecan toffee recipe!

Butter Pecan Toffee

Ingredients:

  • 1 stick butter
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon corn syrup
  • 20 tea biscuits
  • Chopped toasted pecans

Directions:
1.    Combine 1 stick butter, 3/4 cup sugar and 1 tablespoon corn syrup in a saucepan over medium heat.
2.    Cook, stirring occasionally, until brown (305 degrees F on a candy thermometer).
3.    Arrange 20 tea biscuits side by side on a large buttered, foil-lined baking sheet.
4.    Pour sugar mixture on top and sprinkle with chopped toasted pecans. Chill until firm; break apart.

The folks at Wholly Wholesome sent me this recipe to try, and it is fantastic-- a great mix of salty and sweet and crunchy. Of course, it wouldn't be a recipe from the HerKentucky kitchen if we didn't work in a little Kentucky bourbon, so I made one batch with a little Old Forrester. No surprise, it was pretty tasty!

Check out Wholly Wholesome's selection of health-conscious, gluten-free desserts, pie crusts, and pie shells at your local Whole Foods and Fresh Market. In Louisville, they're also available at Rainbow Blossom and in Lexington at Good Foods Co-Op.
