Our Friend Liz
Y'all remember our fabulous friend Liz, right?
She went went to school. In Italy. To study shoes. I mean, how amazing is that?
Um, it gets better. She's met Christian Louboutin. And she's married to a dreamy doctor. The best part? She's completely sweet and cool.
So cool, in fact, that back in December she offered to custom-design one of her signature handbags for one lucky HerKentucky reader. She and the winner, Brandi, exchanged emails, worked together on the design, and came up with this darling design.
Brandi is a convert to Elizabeth Elfen Designs. She says:
"Liz was so wonderful to work with. I have NO EXPERIENCE in design and was excited I won such a neat giveaway but was apprehensive about what I possibly could contribute. Liz took the lead and sent me samples and gave me options and ideas. She was very supportive and her fabrics were so beautiful. When I received the bag I was blown away. I was really impressed with her skill and care at the creation of my bag! It represents my style (classic with a touch of flare). It will definitely become a staple in closet. Thank you for such a wonderful experience Liz, I truly will remember it fondly….and I have the bag to prove it!"
Liz has lots up her sleeve these days. She and Dr Hotpants are leaving Brooklyn to embark on a Midwestern adventure (not. even. kidding. They had a Green Acres-themed cocktail party.) She has started a fabulous new blog, The Fanciest Chicken, where she talks food, fashion, and fabulousity. I am seriously so amazed by this, y'all. She found vintage Chanel earrings. On eBay. And shares her shopping secrets on her blog.
Oh, and one more big announcement: Liz is joining the HerKentucky team as a style corespondent! How fabulous is that?
Please join us in welcoming Liz to HerKentucky, and go check out The Fanciest Chicken today!
3 Floral Dresses You Need Right Now
One of my favorite things about spring is the chance to bust out the light and breezy floral dresses.
Here are three floral dresses that you need right now!
1. Madewell Sungarden Dress- this is the perfect little dress for throwing on with flats and a cardigan or jean jacket.
2. Alice + Olivia Maxi Dress- this dress can be taken from day to night by adding heels and some statement jewelry.
3. Dorothy Perkins Dress- this would be a perfect Easter dress, no? Wear this ladylike dress with nude heels and a scarf for the perfect dressy floral dress.
Local Spotlight: Lou What Wear
I recently came across a blog that spotlights Kentucky Fashions in both Louisville and Lexington.
Being a fashionista and fashion blogger myself, I instantly realized what a great idea these two blogs are!
The below was taken from the Lou What Wear "about me" page:
Gah she looks cute…
Don’t lie, you’ve said it. You’re surveying the room at (the bar, wedding, cocktail party, charity event) and you spot her. The best dressed girl there. She’s perfectly put together from top to bottom and suddenly you’re struck with a case of outfit jealousy.
Well, if you all can’t admit it, I will (maybe you’re that really cute girl and if so, I applaud you). I can get a pretty serious case of outfit jealousy from time to time. Whenever it strikes, I vow to never have it again and commit myself to mastering the art of styling so I can be “that girl” (the cute, pretty kind of that girl – Not the over-served, out of control kind of that girl) next time.
But really, we all know that celebs look good when they head out on the town but when you’ve got a gaggle of professionals picking out the perfect look from head to toe – you should look good. What I’m impressed with are the gals that pull it all together on their own – those lovely ladies are the inspiration behind LouWhatWear.
So move over New York, out of the way L.A. – the little city in the middle that is Louisville is vying for some of the fashion spotlight. Next time you’re out and you see a tall girl with a camera coming your way, get ready to reapply some gloss and get your pose on.
This is a fun collaboration they did with other Kentucky Fashion Bloggers for how to wear a fur vest:
So there you have it, fellow Kentuckians! Keep up with style spotting across the state with Lou What Wear !

Leona Trunk Show
One of my favorite stores in Lexington, AJ's Casuals, is having a Leona trunk show this Thursday-Saturday.
Leona is designed by a lovely little southern lady named Lauren Leonard from Nashville, TN. She attended The University of Alabama and moved to NYC after graduation. After living in New York she started Leona and started selling to boutiques all over the south. She is now based out of Nashville, TN.
Here are some of my favorite looks from Leona's fall/holiday lines.
And here I am wearing a Leona dress last year:
You can get 15% off your Leona purchase at AJ's this weekend!
Big Blue Fashion Find: Knights Apparel
When I was in school, UK football games were a "jeans and sweatshirt" affair. We dressed up for Keeneland and we looked nice for basketball, but we left the tailgate sundresses to our sisters in the SEC West. After all, they do it so well.

These days, Wildcat girls are really stepping it up. Cute blue dresses are paired with sassy cowboy boots all over Commonwealth Stadium. The Orange Lot is still a far cry from The Grove, but we're doing our conference proud.
Today, I ran across a little game day dress that gives me the best of both worlds -- a soft polo-style dress emblazoned with the UK logo. It's as comfortable as a well-loved vintage tee, but far more stylish.
The best part? It was $23. At Wal-Mart.
You heard me right. This adorable Knights Apparel game day dress. Under $25. At the Wal-Marts. I'd advise you to run out and pick one up at once.
